When the leading #37 BMW MOTORRAD WORLD ENDURANCE TEAM (BMW, BS) came in for its fifth pit stop, the #1 YART Yamaha Official EWC Team (Yamaha, BS) moved back into the lead and had surpassed 200 laps by around the five-and-a-half-hour mark. Around the same time, the #4 Tati Team AVA6 Racing (Honda, Pl), running eighth, stopped with a technical issue. The SST-class #38 Champion-Hert Powered by MRP (BMW, Dl), which then moved up to eighth, also began emitting white smoke, and oil flags were shown. The race’s first safety car was deployed. The order was #1 YART (Yamaha, BS) leading, followed by #37 BMW (BMW, BS) and #5 F.C.C. TSR Honda France (Honda, BS), with #12 Yoshimura SERT Motul (Suzuki, BS) fourth, #76 AutoRace Ube Racing Team (BMW, BS) fifth, and #11 Kawasaki Webike Trickstar (Kawasaki, BS) sixth. After just over 15 minutes behind the safety car, racing resumed. The leading #1 YART (Yamaha, BS) made its sixth stop at 210 laps, during which #37 BMW (BMW, BS) retook the lead. By 21:00 local time (04:00 the following day in Japan), pit boards were shining bright, the sky a beautiful hue somewhere between overcast and sunset, and the circuit had grown quite dark. The running order was P1 #37 BMW (BMW, BS), P2 #12 Yoshimura (Suzuki, BS), P3 #5 TSR (Honda, BS), P4 #1 YART (Yamaha, BS), P5 #76 AutoRace Ube (BMW, BS), and P6 #11 KWT (Kawasaki, BS), giving Bridgestone-equipped teams a sweep of the top six. #1 YART (Yamaha, BS) and #76 AutoRace Ube (BMW, BS) had made six pit stops, while the other top-six teams had made five as six hours elapsed—one sixth of this long race complete.
